Is FP required for EAD renewal too?

I'm about to renewal my EAD2 based on I485.

Is digital finger printing required for EAD renewal too? I understand fingerprinting for EAD is different from fingerprinting for I485.
When I read the instruction for E-filing, I was told that I need to schedule an appointment for FP at ASC--is this FP required only for first time EAD application, or for renewal too?

What if I do paper filing instead of E-filing for renewal, do I still need to do it? My friend did her renewal half a year ago by paper but she was not asked to do any FP -- is this a new rule? I do remember doing the FP in district office for OPT's EAD, but never did it again when filing the 1st EAD for I485 last year still got approved.

NO fingerprints needed if you paper file. I applied in Nov 2004 for renewal. Approved 02/01/05. Received cards 02/07/05.

Thanks, Grunggy. So, it took you almost 3 months to get it renewed...I had thought it only takes 4-6 weeks according USCIS' processing date Looks like I gotta hurry up.
