hi
I am Saeid from Iran and I recieved NL 20 days ago.
I have a qestion about " Evidence of Support"? A lawyer said it is necessary to have a "Affidavit of Support" from a US citizen or a Legal Permanent Resident . He said my own funds is not enough( not important how much is it) . Is it true? But it is not fair! :( I don't have anyone in USA. Did all 50000 accepted winners have "Affidavit of Support" in previous DV programs?
Is anyone in the forum who got GC only on base of his/her own funds, I mean without a Us citizen support?
If my own funds is enough,How much money will be acceptable for my support?

thanks all.

in most of the cases - yes, you need to have form I-134 filled in
either by yourself (if you are planning to support yourself on your
own), or by your co-sponsor. there is official amount of money
you(/your co-sponsor) need to present during AOS/CP interview.
you can use 125% of the poverty line for every year (I-134
pledges someone to support you for three years):
www.uscis.gov/graphics/formsfee/forms/files/I-864p.pdf
however, it may be a way to much.

this is I-134
http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/formsfee/forms/i-134.htm

if you sponsor yourself, you can present all your bank statements,
documents confirming that you own valuable property like houses,
cars, boats, etc...

bottom line: you need to prove that you are unlikely "to become a public charge". look here, this is official:

Also, google this:
Ineligibility and applicability of grounds of inadmissibility
you may find plenty of helpful information.

I disagree with that.

First,
in most cases
: well, that depends strictly on your case. See my big thread on general info for DV winners ( see my signature ).
The evidence of support is what matters, and the affidavit of support ( I 134 for DV ) is only one of the three possibilities. ( affidavit, your own funds = bank statements, job offer in the US ).
I didn't have an affidavit, and I had no problem with my funds and a job offer for both my husband and I.

Second
form I-134 filled in either by yourself
: well, in theory, the I134 can only be filled by a USC or a LPR, which you are not yet ( you do not have the GC yet ). So, unless you have good friends in the US ( either USC or LPR ) who could do one for you, you cannot do one for yourself.

See my big thread for DV winners so that you understand the difference between evidence of support and affidavit of support.

I can't get a job!

Dear Catseyes and Senya
Thanks alot. I have a problem with my job in USA. I am a veterinarian (DVM) I heared that veterinarians are rich people in USA! :p But I have to got an accredit through accreditation tests and It takes a lot of time!
I think my funds can support me for two years in USA. But I prefer to find a US citizen to support me( just for reducing risk!) or find a veterinary related job offer in US.
By the way, thank you all for your helpfull posts! And pray for me.
