Is 7th year extension like an H-1B renewal?

Do I need to go and get a stamp at an American Consulate if I get into the 7th year of H-1B? Is it like a renewal H-1B stamp?

Yes. It is same as H1 renewal.

I got 7th year extension (Jan 2004 to jan 2005) and 8th year extension (Jan 2005 to jan 2006).

You need to get the visa stamped only if you are going outside the US and your current Visa is expired.

Went to India in May 2004. Had to get the Visa stamped for the 7th year extension.
