I heard from somebody else that the immigration officer no long gives stamp on your passport even he/she approves your application?? Can anyone here gone through this confirm whether this is true?? Thanks a lot

That's not correct. It depends on the Officer. I requested it after being interviewed for Permanent Residency and they stamped it on my passport for 01 year while I got the other one by mail.

I thought the stamp was very practical bcs you don't have two documents.
