Hi all,

We are in the process of getting my in-laws come for a visit here to the States to visit us. As far as I can see, it is not required nor recommended to prepare an Affidavit of Support. I've asked this question to my attorney and he mentioned that he can prepare an Invitation Packet for the in-laws for a certain fee which would help them. Does anyone know what is included in these invitation packets? Has anyone ever had those prepared by their attorneys???

You don't need to spend your money on an attorney for this. You can find all the details at http://www.immihelp.com/ and also at http://www.path2usa.com/

Regarding an affidavit of support, unless your in-laws can prove to the satisfaction of the consulate officer that they have enough funds on their own for their travel to the US, an affidavit of support would be required. The consulate officer conducting the visa interview needs to be convinced that the people being granted a visa do not become a public liability of the US Government.

Good luck with your in-laws visa.
