I have my Citizenship Interview tomorrow at 9am.

I have been in the US since I was 9 years old, I am now 24.

I haven't studied any material for the interview, should I be worried ?
(I'm a college graduate so I'm assuming I can handle it..)

What can I expect at the interview?

Also, I want to travel out of the country flying STAND-BY. I was not able to do this last year since I was NOT a US Citizen.

So, how long after the Interview will I have to wait in order to officially become a Citizen ??

I filed the N 400 almost 2 years ago. I did my finger printing for it July 2004.

So, probably filed it in January of 04

Are you serious??? You only think it is PROBABLE it was filed in Jan 04????

In this forum people can dictate by heart in the middle of their night sleep the exact details of every single step of their process.

Wish you lotta luck today and I hope you pass it easily.

BTW, You should know your process took longer than many who filed with you - which is surprising.

OK - I went to take the Interview today at 9:45 AM.

She asked me about 5 history questions and made me read/write one sentence in english.

The interview was very easy, and I passed it in about 5 minutes!

Then, she asked if I wanted to take the OATH at 2 pm... I said Yes... she said Wait in the lobby and someone will give you an appointment form to appear at 2 pm in another room.

So, it's 10.15 am at this point and I wait in the waiting room.

It is now 1.45 pm - I still have not received the Appointment form and I have asked 4 different officers what is going on????

They said... Just wait...be patient.

Then, finally at 2.30 pm - 4 Hours after my interview, the stupid officer tells me that I need to file N-600 form and not N-400 since my parents are naturalized in 1995 and I was under 18 years of age at that time in 1995.

Then, I was sent to another Officer. This Officer told me, wow, I don't know why she kept you waiting 4 hours, she should have told you this at 10:00 am!!!!

I didn't even eat lunch - b/c I was told to WAIT for my appointment form.

Then I get stuck in traffic for 1.5 hours and get home at 6.00 PM Finally!!!

I was there from 9am - 6pm. And now, I have to go back next week to take the OATH unless they screw up my N-600 application!!

The absolute incompetence of government employees at these locations is downright ridiculous.

I wish they outsourced these activities to corporations - I bet it would take no more than 2 hours for me get my citizenship then :)

Grrrrrr !!! I hate dealing with this crap...

To me, this is not really a big deal b/c I have no doubt i will become a citizen as my parents are already both US citizens. My life doesn't change in anyway if this process takes 1 year or 3 years... I really don't care.

But, I realize for most of you , it must be a very important goal in life.

best of luck

Actually you already are a US Citizen and have been all along since the time your parents became US citizens! You could have applied for a US passport along with your parents. Now the N-600 will just get you a "Certificate of Citizenship". With an approved N-400 and oath, you would have gotten "Naturalization Certificate".

That is true.

It is a shame you had to pay the processing fees, the waiting, the interviewing, etc. etc.

Let me ask you a question:

My sister is also wanting to become a US citizen. She was also under 18 at time My parents became citizens

She also filed N-400 app 1 year ago.

She still has not received her fingerprint appt and when she asked an immigration officer yesterday about her status - she was told that her file has been set for ABANDONMENT.

So, looks like maybe they sent her an appointment for fingerprinting...but it got lost in mail so she never went..and now they are closing the file for abandonment.

So, what is the best course of action for her?

Should she just cancel her N-400 and file a N-600? Or will this pro-long the process?

Or should she just wait for her N-400 interview and at that time, present the Officer with a completed N-600 file along with all the documents (I i had done this, I would have received my certificate that same day according to officer)

What do you think ?
