I had my Interview today and it went great.
I arrived there at 8.15 AM and my appointment wasn't until 8.40 AM so while I was waiting one of the security officers there tried to calm some of our nerves .....
At exactly 8.40 AM my Name was called, I walked into a area where she stopped me real quick, greeted me and ask me for any kind of ID so it is really me.
The she walked me into her office and had me sit down. She pulled up my file on the computer, opened my paper file and had me stand up and take the oath. After that I sat back down and we went over the N-400. She made changes to my address, to an additional child and noted that I had said Yes to the question "ever been cited" and wrote next to it Speeding Ticket, Information of payment proof on file.
After that she ask me several more questions on the N-400 and from there she had me sign a paper twice and print my name once. (I think it was that I am willing to take the Oath of Allegiance). The she had me sign the front of my 2 pictures.
After that she ask me the civics questions. "What is the highest court in the United States", "Where does the freedome of speech come from", "What is the white house", "What do the stripes on the Flag represent", "Independence Day celebrates independence from whom" and "Who said liberty or give me death".
After that she ask me to read a simple sentence which I don't remember and then she had me write "I want to become a citizen of the United States" and that was it.
She handed me my aproval and told me there are 2 oathdates left in this year. One is on the 16th of Nov which I probably don't get and then the other one is the 14th of Dec and she didn't have then 2008 calendar.

But yea that is my story ....

Congratulations!!

Could you throw some light regarding the documents they asked and the docs you took for the interview..

Documents

I pretty much took EVERYTHING I could think of. I think I had about 15 different folders with the last 5 year tax transcripts, Housing Agreements since we live on a Military Post. Bills with my Name on it. ALL of our Birth certificates. My Marriage Certificate. Insurance Papers. Passports. Credit Report to prove previous Addresses to compare with the ones on my N-400. Social Security Cards. The original reciept of my speeding ticket (Copy was sent with N-400) ..... Pretty much anything that had my Name on and my Husbands and my Kids's Names on it I took with me and had it organized in Folders so if it would be ask for I wouldn't look like an idiot going through papers.
Before I move on, here is my Background. I have been here since April 2001 and never left the country. I moved just from one street to another but stayed in the same town during N-400 Process and I also had a child during the N-400 Process.
So when she ask if the address is still the same I told her No. So she looked in the computer to see if it is updated and I told her it must be because the Interview Notice was sent to my new Address so she took a red pen and just wrote the new address on there. Then she ask me if I was still working at the place I listed on my N-400. I worked at Taco Bell in 2001 for about 2 month and I told her No so she ask what I do now and I said I am a mom and wife and she wrote Homemaker on it. Then she wrote in red next to speeding ticket prove on file and then she went to the Page where my kids are listed and I told her I had another child and ask if she need to see her Birthcertificate and she said no, she only said she needs her name and Birthdate. Then I told her if she needs to see that I really have not traveled outside of the US because I wrote 0 days on the N-400 outside of the US. She said if I wanted to so I pulled my 2 Passports out and she took a really quick look at it and that was it.
So I took ANYTHING and EVERYTHING and needed NOTHING. She didn't even need to take a look at my greencard. She just needed to see some photo ID when I first was called to see that it is really me. I ask her my Greencard and she said any kind of Photo ID.

I was in the office for 15 minutes, my interview was maybe 5 minutes, the rest was just chit chat.

I am in the same boat, passed my interview on October 4, from what I understand if you live in the Missouri side then your oath will be in downtown Kansas City, if you live on the Kansas side then you go to Lawrence. I live in KC,MO. Where do you live? Check out this website. http://www.mow.uscourts.gov/natcerem.htm

No I actually live on the Riley/Geary County Border in KS. The IO told me today that most likely I will take my Oath at the Federal Court in KC and that is when she took the Calender out and told me for this Year there are 2 Oath Dates left and one is Nov. 16th and the other is Dec. 14th. I ask her that how soon of a Notice would I get and she said usually 2 weeks prior to Oath I get a letter. So I don't think I get the November 16th Date.

I looked through 7 naturalization postings from Kansas City DO, most of them waited around 52 days to the Oath Letter and then another 24-27 days until the actual oath date. I have already been waiting almost a month for the letter. The officer told me that I could possibly get my oath date in November because they had not interviewed for 3 weeks prior to my interview in October, however I don't think that that there is a chance for me to ge my oath date in November. According to the website that I gave you Oath dates in downtown kansas city are November 8 and December 13. I called the court several weeks ago and they told me that naturalization ceremony dates had not been rescheduled.

The website is great but it is for Saint Louis. They have their own USCIS office :) My interview was October 4th. I scheduled infopass for November 5th to see what's going on with my Oath Date :)

Congratulations Ladybuggy! :) There was no reason to be nervous about the interview :)

Well I know that NOW but when you walk into something unknown ... you never know and I was just worried I draw a blank or something. I knew I know the answers ... I mean what if I would of gotten a frumpy or mean officer , lol .... you just never know what to expect if you never done it !

I know you did not know it would be easy...

My point now that both you and I went through this is: if the application is straightforward (normal vacation time spent abroad, no DUI erc.), there is nothing to be worried about the interview :)

By the way I too was over-prepared with the backup documents organized by folders - when reading about your interview, I was thinking I was reading about mine :)

You just never know. I had a very nice actually super nice IO. She was wonderful and being a member of this forum for so long and reading about some bad experiences you get worried.
The guy who went in a little before me walked out right when I was called and he told his wife I need my Marriage Certificate. When I was done and walked outside he was on the phone and it sounded like he was from further distance and was really mad.
Carrying all the paperwork was no burden, I was prepared and I am not upset that I took it with me and it wasn't ask for it.
I live over 2 hours away and I really didn't want to have to go back there or delay anything. I just want it to get it done and over with.

Just that simple.

Congrats Ladybuggy.

Interesting enough, you asked the IO, do you want proof for this? do you want proof for that? etc :D

Unless they ask for proof, you need not ask. Perhaps you were a bit anxious :D

Probably, lol ... I just wanted to make sure because I know that my N-400 will go to their supervisor and if something isn't right you know then I am screwed. I had seen it happen before. So for everything that had changed I wanted to show proof so later on my behind is covered ! :D

And it is not that it would of gotten me in any kinda trouble but you are right ... I was anxious, nervous, out of my mind .... you know :p

Congratulations Ladybuggy.

Just came across your post and decided to read your experience. I just received my green card through DV program, quite lucky for my wife to be selected. But I think about it, it's about time, consider we have been in the US for almost 10 years (add all the years in school and during work). And I thought it's hard to get the green card, I guess my next step - waiting another 5 years to get US citizenship - won't be too easy either. Well~ what can I do.

Quick question - how and when do you start to count the dates to apply citizenship? Do you start from the date on the immigration visa or do you start from the date you enter the US?

Thanks.

I think it is 5 Years from the date that is on your Green Card. I really don't know because I have been here for almost 7 years so I didn't do that counting but I am sure someone else can answer that better. So don't hold me on that please but I think that is what it is
