We went for my green card interview today. Because I am a planner I was really prepared and went with all the documentation. We waited for 30 minutes, the inspector took us up. He asked for identification, I gave him both passports. He never opened my husband's. He seemed really concerned with going thru the papers and reading the papers and the computer. He asked what I sent in for the RFE (as he paged thru it). He asked us to verify my name, address etc. Had questions about my last entry, I had to show him the stamp in my passport. He seemed to spend some time confirming that CLG was for Calgary, Canada. He asked what my job was and about my H1B and then spent some time trying to find software engineer in the computer and said he would settle on Engineer - non specific. Whatever that was for..... He asked my husband where he worked. Then looked at papers and the computer some more. Asked how long we had lived together - then he answered it himself and said since Oct. My husband said we lived together for 2 months prior to that so 8 months total. He asked and I confirmed it was my first marriage and no children. My husband said first marriage and no children. Said he would approve my I-130. A couple minutes later, he asked if we had questions. I said no. He then told a corny joke, continued to look at papers, then told another joke. A few minutes after that he stamped my passport and explained the next steps! WOW. I didn't get out a piece of paper, show a photo, show anything.... I was really shocked how easy it was. After reading on these forums, I was prepared for a lot worse! Took 20 minutes.
As further info, my husband is USC, I am Canadian, we are both in our mid-40s. I've been in the US working for 8.5 years. Been waiting on labor certification with my employer for 3.5 years. I'm thrilled to have met my husband (and soulmate) and to now have a green card! What a relief.
Thanks for all the help on the forum, it's nice to have a place to go for support. Good luck to everyone.
