Interview scheduled before fingerprints are cleared?

I'm a little confused.
On 7/06, I had my fingerprints taken as scheduled.
Yesterday, I received a letter stating that the FBI was unable to process my FP and it needs to be retaken on 7/21.
Today I receive a letter for my interview dated 8/12.
Is it typical for the USCIS to schedule an interview without FBI clearance?
 
Good for you. It proves in USCIS left hand does not know what right hand is doing. I have read some where use Corn Huskers lotion on your fingers for making it more "finger printable". Do not press your fingers but roll.
 
So do I go ahead and show up for both appointments or do I need to clarify it still with them through their 1800 number?

Yes go ahead. Your FP results will be transmitted by FBI on the same day or the next day. When you go for Interview they would have the FP results. I do not think there is any need to contact 1800. I can assure you they are not any wiser
