Interview Questions

I was married in January of this year to a US citizen, and due to the fact that last year my previous employer laid me off 4 days before I was due to fly to London for my green card interview, my wife is now sponsoring me for permanent residency. That was after 5 years of going through this process.

We filed in March of this year and I had my fingerprints/bio done in August, I also have received my EAD card and Advance Parole letter. I am currently working on the EAD card. As we await the interview date we wondered what others had experienced during the interview. Was it fairly straightforward, were they given a hard time ? I know each office and each officer will be different, but just wondered about others experiences.

I assume there are also background checks performed ? My local office is in Manchester NH.

My was fast and painless ... just make sure you have all the documents they ask for in the interview letter. They may not look at it, but to be on the safe side bring them all. My interview was about 10-15 minutes. It was approved pending the name check from the FBI. The interviewer said everything is fine, my part was done and all i had to do was wait. it may take up to 3 weeks to get my GC. It actually took 67 days.

good Luck

Im not sure if i get you right. You were laid-off 4 days before your employment based GC interview? Why would you have to fly to london for your GC interview?

Yes, I was laid off 4 days before flying to London. I came here from the UK, and I was going the consular processing route, which meant that I had to fly back to London for the interview at the American embassy, get my GC (hopefully) and then fly back to the US as a permanent resident.

However, because I was laid off, I could not complete the process, because one of the questions asked is if the employer is offering me full time permanent employment, and as the answer would be no I was left with no choice but to transfer my H1b to a new employer.

As it turns out, rather than go through all that again my wife agreed to sponsor me, a much quicker process, and I am now waiting for interview.
