So finally after a long wait - I had my interview at the Fairfax VA DO. The appointment was at 8:40 am. I reached there at about 8:10.

After about an hour's wait - I was called for the interview at about 9:10. The IO was a very courteous gentleman. After swearing me in to tell the truth, he went over all the paperwork and the N-400. Since I had known that both sets of my FPs were unreadable - I had obtained the local police clearance ahead of the interview. The IO said that it was good I did that and that it made life simpler for him and me.

After going over the paperwork, he asked me to read a sentence and write. Then the Q&A exam - got first six correct and we stopped there.

After signing a couple of pieces of paper per the procedure, he congratulated and said I was approved and gave me an appointment for 2 pm ceremony (reporting time 1 pm).

As I was getting back on the road, he called me and asked me to come back since there was additional piece of paper 9a sworn statement) I had to sign in lieu of the fingerprints. Did that and was finally home at about 11 am.

Came back with family just before 1 pm. The applicants were made to stand in two lines separated on the basis of last 3 digits of A#. One by one, they verified the details on the natz. cert. and made sure photographs were our own :-). Along with verification, they handed us a packet with seat numbers on it. The packet contained a copy of oath, the pledge of allegiance, copy of the constitution and the declaration of independence and a small American flag. We were then escorted to the second floor and asked to take seats per seat numbers provided.

The ceremony started at 2 pm. The guest was a judge from the immigration court. He administered the oath and made brief remarks. Then there was the pledge recital.

Then they began handing out the certificates. They told everyone that they would take as much time as needed for everyone to take pictures with family etc. The USCIS station director functioned as photographer for those who didn't have anybody to take pictures or those who wanted to take pictures with the family. I that that was very courteous of her to do so.

We were out of there just before 3 pm.

Now waiting for OL for my wife - she has had her interview in August - but since she is changing her name, hasn't gotten the letter yet.

Can you tell us how did you know your FP were no good? did you call FBI and they said they didnt receive? or you just got a new notice for FP?

Good question. Did USCIS reschedule a new FP appoinment for you? And in your case, was there a delay in sending the prints from the FP office to the FBI? If so, what was the length of the delay.

Mine and wantmygcnow case is similar - FP's from Alexandria;s office have not been forwarded to the FBI even after 2.5 weeks.

Thanks all for the wishes.

I had to do the FP twice. Then even after that when I hadn't heard anything - I had made an infopass appt. The IO at the infopass appt. told me that both FPs were unreadable and that eventually I would have to go and get local police clearance. Thankfully, I have lived in the same place for 6+ years - so that wasn't too bad.

first of all let me wish you on your citizenship
Congratulations!!!

I see that you did 2 FPs in a span of 2 weeks,
would you tell us how you could do that, Is it possible to do FPs twice without notice?

also, did IO recommended you get police clearance cert.?
Please clarify - I think my FPs are in soup ...

Thanks

Thanks.

I got the FP second notice in less than 10 days after first FP. The appt. date for second FP was a few days later I think - I did a walk-in. The infopass IO did not recommend I get a police clearance but said that when both FPs are unclassifiable, the resolutions is to get police clearance from places where you have resided in last 5 years. Others on this forum have had similar experiences.

Most times, people are told at the time of the interview to go back and get the clearance and are then scheduled for oath (assuming all else is well). I guess I was lucky since I knew about unreadable FPs ahead of times and was able to get local clearance which was accepted by the IO at the time of interview.
