Here are my details:
Application sent on: 5/07
Application Received on: 5/07 (Priority Date)
FP Notice Date: 6/07
FP Date: 6/07
Interview Notice Date: 10/07
Interview Date: 11/07
Oath: 01/08
We went for the interview today. The interviewer was professional and courteous. He started asking about my employment. I stumbled a bit about the number of years I worked with my previous employer (told a wrong year). He warned me that I have a different year in my application and telling something different. I corrected myself and told him the right year. He seemed bit suspicious. He asked me what proof do I have about my employment. I told him that I have all the documents at home and didn't bring them any (w2s, pay stubs, tax returns, etc).
He then asked to write a sentence in English "The children played outside". It was followed by civic/history questions:
(1) Colors of the Flag
(2) Independence Date
(3) Citizenship Form
(4) # of Justices in Supreme Court
(5) Supreme Commander of US Army
(6) Who elects the congress
(7) Important right as part of bill of rights
(8) Who authorizes war?
(9) The ship pilgrims traveled
(10) Who wrote the constitution
He then went through the application, got my signature on it and also on name change form (we are changing our name).
He then asked me whether I can get the W2s, Tax returns, pay stubs today. He said if I can get them today, he is going to approve. Otherwise he said, he is going to issue a 'request for more information' letter and I need to mail them. I told him I will get them today. He made it very clear that I need to get copies of all the documents and he is going to keep them.
Meanwhile, my wife was called for the interview and straight off the bat, the interviewer told her that since we didn't bring the w2s, tax returns, etc, she is going to issue a 'request for more information' letter and we need to mail them. Other than that, her interview as straightforward too.
While I was waiting for my wife, the officer who interviewed me came back and told me that he talked to his boss and they don't need any documents. He then gave the approval letter and took my interview notice. He congratulated me and told me that I'll get the oath schedule letter in 2-3 months.
My wife came back from her interview and was asked to wait. Then, her interviewer came back and told her that she talked to her boss and decided that no more documents are necessary and gave her the approval letter.
Though the outcome was good, a little drama in between made us (me especially) bit nervous.
Whooosh!!!!! All is well which ends in well!!!!
I believe my nervousness in the beginning caused the officer to suspect about my green card. I was kind of apologitic about it and he said -'don't worry about it - it happens sometimes'.
Now, the wait for the final approval/oath letter.
Good luck for those who are waiting for their interviews/ in different stages of your citizenship application.
Take care and have a nice day.
