Interview & expired passport

I m scheduled for a GC interview in May but my passport is expired and i will not be able to receive new one until months later.Will i still be able to receive my GC? I have a girlfreind who got hers withouyt even having a passport at all. But my lawyer scared me that they dont give GC without valid passport...Any experiences? I will be in Atlanta GA INS

A valid passport is not required. They will not put an |I-551 stamp in your expired passport but you will get the green card in the mail. Your lawyer doesn't have a lot of immigration experience. Find another lawyer.

Unless your lawyer meant that they won't stamp your passport not that you won't be able to received your permanent residency card.

I am from ATL and the officer asked me when my passport expires, he looked up anyway and then stamp it. He said that if the passport was less than a year validity they won't stamp it, I didn't say anything since my passport was exactly at that moment with a year + x days, because the stamp is valid for a year. For me was silly I don't know if others with less time on their passports where stamped. Anyway you will need an unexpired passport to travel.

Yea i agree, you dont need a passport for your interview. I didnt have my passport with me as i had lost it, i told the IO that i have lost my passport and have started the process of getting a new one. Interview was cleared and now i have a GC.
