Interview experience at San Jose DO

Just completed my interview at the san jose do. It was a pretty pleasant experience. The interviewer was very nice and in fact we even had a chat about Thomas Jefferson's womanly exploits :-)

OK now the interview itself. First he asked to me take the oath. Then he went over the application and confirmed some of the answers on it like my name, address, etc and some of the other questions. All pretty straightforward.

One interesting thing - I had a traffic ticket below $500 that I had mentioned on the application and he actually told me not to mention that if it was a simple traffic citation and not alcohol or drug related. He corrected my application and removed it.

Then he asked me the civics questions - sorry I don't remember the exact questions but they were all pretty simple. Then he asked me to write a sentence in english. After that, I signed the application and the photos.

He handed me the n-652 form with checkbox A checked - your application has been recommended for approval. He mentioned that I should get the oath letter in about 2 weeks but after looking at the san jose thread, that seems unlikely.

Anyway, hope everyone has the same experience as I did.

Congratulations! :) Thanks for sharing your interview experience. Hopefully this helps people get less anxious, as most interviews are pleasant and trouble free.

Thanks Huracan. I was not even asked for any other documents other than the green card and my drivers license. Though I think it still makes sense to take all relevant documents along just in case you get asked for anything.

Wow glad to hear your interview went well. I am having mines next week and have been a little nervous as of late.
Hopefully i get the same guy you got :)

I also had my interview in San Jose on 7/15.

I had some complication because I was not able to show my tax return for this year - I had filed an extension. She wanted to see a statement from IRS showing that I have filed the extension. My tax accountant says that IRS no longer issues such a statement, and instead wrote a letter for me. I submitted the letter, copies of cleared checks to IRS, copy of the extension filing, bank statement showing cleared checks. I put it in the drop box yesterday. Hopefully this will satisfy the requirement.

As I was leaving, I asked about when the oath would likely be. She says it all depends when my tax situation is resolved. But, she said that there is a ceremony in August for 10,000 people. Can this be correct? Does anyone know of venues that have been used in the past for this size, so we can investigate the dates? I already checked the arena and SJ convention center.

If this is the case, it would make sense that they will be sending out as many notices as possible in the coming days/weeks. They are probably trying to clear out the backlog.

I don't know about San Jose, but here in the LA area, oath ceremonies for 6,000 people are not uncommon. They have two or even three of those in one day so some days there are 12,000 - 18,000 new citizens sworn in! She might have meant that there are two back-to-back oath ceremonies coming up in August, each with 5,000 people. Hope everything works out with your tax issue and that you receive your approval soon.

Someone mentioned on another thread that their oath letter said Aug 7, Santa Clara County fairgrounds on Tully. That place could definitely accommodate 10,000.
