Interview Done

Hi All,

I had my successful interview yesterday. The interview was scheduled for 2pm but it had actually started at 2:20 pm. It lasted for 15 min. or so. The IO was a nice lady in the 40's. She told me that I would not be able to do the same day oath as my interview was after 2:15 pm (It seems all the candidates whose interview is done by 2:15 pm get the sameday oath). If my interview was in time, probably I could have done my oath yesterday itself.:( But anyway, I will have to travel again on sep 21.

She has asked me the following civics questions:

Who wrote the Declaration of Independence?
What is the political party of the President now?
What are the two major political parties in the United States?
Name one state that borders Mexico.
There were 13 original states. Name three.
Who is the Commander in Chief of the military?

Read:
How many states are there in america?

Write:
There are fifty states in america.

She has observed that my GC sponsoring company's name (from my A# file) is different from the companies I have worked after my GC. I told her that the company was purchased by different company and I have been working in the latter company. She was satisfied with my answer and didn't want to see the letter I had as a proof. She wrote some comments regarding this on my form. I have told that I had two minor traffic citations (red light camera and speed camera - for $75 and $40). She said OK and noted down on the form.
She did a walk through of the form and asked few questions (Yes/No's).

Once my interview was OVER she congratulated me and gave me the approval letter and oath letter for 21st sep. oath ceremony. She even made sure that the other IO who interviewed my wife also gave an appointment for 21st september oath ceremony.

Overall, it went very well.. I have observed some people coming with only DL, passport and GC but nothing else. There was a lady who was enjoying songs on her MP3 player and she didn't respond to the interview call from IO. Later she was panic, but was called by the IO in next turn. Yesterday most of the cases seem to be marriage-based.

I think unless there are some bad remarks in the case file (such as criminal/legal/marriage-based), there is nothing to worry about anything. I think the interview is a formality only other than the civics test and english reading and writing.

Good luck to all who are in line for their interviews..

CP,

I am in the Baltimore DO as well. So, it seems as if it is efficient and no slacker there. Congratulations!!! I won't be eligible for N400 till next August, but is good to see the speed which they are processing these application. Can you imagine how quick they will be a year from now? I mean Obama has been in office for 8 months, and things are already improving..:p In 20 months, your application will be processed today and your citizenship issued in 45 days...:)

Congrats CPZ,

Even though you could not do the same day Oath, getting the Oath letter is better than the waiting on the mail.

Not long to go now! :)

I am wondering why she made the observation on your employer post GC ? That is one thing I am little concerned about, having left the sposnoring employer in 3 months after getting GC. I did not see any IO focusing on it much, atleast in the forum postings. Is it something to be worried about now?

Worry in itself won't help, right? "Even God can't change the past".

Ok, why did y leave - were y laid off, or did y leave voluntarily?
If the former, y won't be hassled - it is not yr fault!
If the latter, did y leave for a better opportunity (w/better Pay)? If so, simply state so.

It does not appear like an issue for which you would be denied.

I believe my concern is legitmate and thought a debate on this specific issue (with direct input from someone in that situation) could help me & others in framing their responses better when faced with a similar situation. Earlier I wasn't concerned about it but I already thought of a good response if I face the same question during my interview. See, it helps. God can't change the past but that is not stopping people from opening so many threads and posting their problems and personal experiences.

Did someone misunderstand my post? I did not question the purpose of yr post, not in the least! The quote was to encourage in finding a 'solution', moving forward (as opposed to simply worrying). The middle para (in my post) was meant to offer cues. Your (latest) post does not suggest where you stand...

I don't think it will be an issue. Even I had moved to a diff. company,it wouldn't have affected. I think you can give valid reasons such as salary, work related issues etc. Also - as long as the area/work domain is same, there is no problem (for ex: if your original company was IT company and the new company is also an IT company).

Hi Cpzinga,

Congrats!! As predicted -- the same day oath was too close to call... I thought that they gave oath for the next working day -- a friend's mom (last year) was in a similar situation and got her oath scheduled for a day-or-two out from the interview... anyway you don't have to check the mail daily and your wife and baby daughter will all be together for your naturalization ceremony!

Rjain2,

Thanks. Yeah, I wasn't expecting a sameday oath as the interview time was 2pm. Anyway all I have to do now is relax and wait for the oath date. Yeah, as you had mentioned, IO told me that I could take my kids to the oath ceremony. It is at 9 am on 21st september 2009 (I didn't know that Baltimire DO conducts oath at that early morning).

CP,

Obama has been in office for 8 months, and things are already improving..:p In 20 months, your application will be processed today and your citizenship issued in 45 days...:)

Weid Al (Yankovich),
Yup, one yr down the road the process will be ultra efficient. If your interview time is 2.00pm, and you show up at 2:01 PM, USCIS will send you a letter that you abandoned your naturalization.:eek:

And looking down 10 yrs down the road...
The process will be ULTRA efficient (color code - flashing green).
You can get your citizenship in 1 well - of course nobody would be applying for it ..as EVERYONE of us will be applying for PR status of China - thats where all the jobs would be:p

I am in the same boat as spiderman03. Left the sponsoring company too soon (6 weeks) and wondering whether anybody can share their experience with the similar situation.

Guys, please respond. we need your help.

Thanks.

Many of my friends who didn't even stay with the sponsoring employer at the time of GC approval did not have any problems with their citizenship approvals. I am pretty much the last one in my circle of friends who is waiting to become a citizen. I am planning to tell the IO (if IO asks about my employer after GC) that I am working for a new employer with the same IT job description and little bit higher salary.

If someone can change employer with in the same job category pre-GC, isn't it logical to allow someone to switch employer post-GC (within the same job category)? I just don't understand why the IO's ask that question here and there.

Spider,

If you claim that you left for a higher salary, then be prepared to provide supporting evidence on this issue. It is possible that the IO might be a rat , and demand to see this huge salary increase which forced you to move 6 weeks after being granted a GC. If you don't have documentation, don't make up any stories that will come back to bite your ear off. Once you swear to tell the truth, do so and don't embellish or volunteer any information...:D
