Interview de-scheduled due to lack of 5 year period since GC

Folks,

Am a Citizenship hopeful from the Pittsburgh, PA DO. My GC was approved on Aug 9 2004. Everything was going on smoothly after I sent in my N400 on May 9th (for a PD of May 11 2009). I was scheduled for an interview on July 31 2009. Today, got a letter from the local DO that they had to de-schedule the appointment as it was before the 5 year anniversary for my GC approval date. To make matters worse, they said they will mail me a letter with new interview scheduled date. If my previous interview schedule experience is any indication, it might be at least a month or more away, which puts a huge spanner in my plans.

Question to any knowledgable souls out there:
1. Is a trip to the local DO (with or without Infopass) worth it, to try and convince them to give a date as quickly as possible (rather than I having to wait for them to send me a letter at their convenience?)
2. From what I've seen in the forums, getting the interview before the 5 year anniversary is not uncommon...........does my experience mean that in the Pittsburgh DO, both the Interview and the Oath is done the same day?
If not, does any experienced hand there know what the Oath schedule for the Pittsburgh office usually is?

Thanks, people!

Edit: Realized a typo in signature: Original Interview date should be 07/31 in signature.

There is a small chance that your application can be eventually denied for applying
one one day or even two days too early. Remmeber there are 31 days in May
and 31 days in July so that there are 92 days between Aug 9 2004
and May 9th. It is 90-day rule not 3-month rule.

Looks like rescheduling can be slower than re-applying. One can get a IL within 2 month from filing N-400.
But It seems USCIS is not good with rescheduling

I would wait for the letter unless you have some special circumstances. Please put things in perspective. Not that long ago people had to wait close to a year to complete naturalization. What is a month or so when you are getting your naturalization done under six months?

USCIS is very inconsistent about this. Sometimes they interview people before the 5-year anniversary, other times they reschedule the interview because the originally scheduled interview is before the 5 year mark. Nothing in the law says the interview has to be on or after the 5 year mark though. The law only requires the oath to be on or after 5 years (or 3 years if by marriage).
