I am a US citizen, and my wife is a Filipina. Last year, we filed the I-129F, and DS-230, hedging out bets, in case either of them got approved earlier. She was granted K-3 visa, and came to US in July 2006. Recently, we received a letter from USCIS, stating she has been scheduled for an interview for the DS-230 in mid October 2006. Question:
1. Can she and should she go back to Philippines to take the interview?
2. Or should she just file the I-485 and wait for it finish processing?
3. If we do file the I-485, (and I-765 Application for Employment Authorization), roughly how long will it take to get work approval.
We are tempted by first option, since she would be offereed permanent residency upon return to US, and she can start to work, go to school, etc, and we can move past the residency issue.
