Interview date schedule and then again in line?

I'm in my naturalization process.

I had been fingerprinted and was placed in line for interviewing in July. In August my interview was scheduled and I got a letter telling me my mid September interview date. Today (September 6) I got a notice on my phone that my application is put "in line for scheduling" an interview

What's going on here? Anyone have any ideas?

and what should I do? Wait? Call the 800 number? What do you recommend?

If the interview location is not too far and going there is not so much a hassle, I would go for an interview and play dumb. This will serve 2 purposes:

1. If the telephonic message was an error you wont miss your real interview. Go prepared with all docs for an actual interview and if your case is straight forward the chances are you will get approved. If the telephonic message was true then they may not interview you or look into the file and let you go, but then you will get an opportunity to ask the IO about your case.

2. If there is an issue with your case still play dumb and ask for the reason from the horse's mouth as our replies may not be applicable to your specific case since each case is unique.

The possible reason can be that:

1. Simple Error (Which most likely is not, since USCIS only calls, texts or emails only when there is an urgent need, or else they communicate by postal mail).

2. They went ahead scheduling you for an interview and later realized something was missing in your file/case, lets say your name check, even though FP were okay, so retracted your interview invitation.

At the least I would use this opportunity as 2nd level/ IO Level/ supervisor level Infopass appointment for case check :)

Just go to your original mid September interview. The online/txt message status updates are sometimes not accurate, and not as trustworthy as a letter in-hand.

They have not cancelled or rescheduled your interview. I would ignore the telephonic notice and go for interview. all the best.

thanks.

the interview place is 4.5 hours away so it's not that close. I would hate to make an 10 hour round trip to be told that they won't interview me.

I got the text notification today and there are still 12 days to my interview. If I don't receive any cancellation letter by that time I will go to the interview.

Would calling and asking the 800 number help? Or would they just be clueless?

Unless you get transferred to an actual IO, by the 800# agent it wont be of much help. When speaking to 800# agent ask him/her to transfer to actual IO telling the 800# agent that your case is complicated, explaining the situation so going to the interview location would be waste of your 10hrs out of your otherwise productive workday.

thanks.

If anyone is wondering today I got the written notice that they are cancelling my interview due to unforeseen circumstances and they'll notify me when it's rescheduled.
