My parents are scheduled for citizenship interview in San Diego. The letter from USCIS provides the list of documents to carry. Which includes the re-entry permit.

However, my parents don’t have it as they left it in India. Of course, they used it in the past while returning to US. Of course, it is already expired. I am wondering would it cause any problem during the

Thank you

Hi desicowboy.

I am not a lawyer, nor a forum guru nor a professional person to give advise on any subject. I don't think it would be a problem if it expired, obviously USCIS will know in your file that it has expired, so a problem concerning that should be out of the question. However, you MUST bring that re-entry permit to the interview and there should be a way to get it from India, however, if you try using one of the Int'l couriers like Fedex, UPS, DHL, etc, sometimes they do not accept shipments that include important documents like Green Cards, Passports or any other immigration document that may be scanned by the USCIS.

A couple of years ago I went to a Fedex office to deliver a package from my home country to the US, the clerk at the office seriously warned me about sending documentation like passports etc since either Fedex or US Customs can detect them and you may be incurring in a violation. Re-entry permits are exactly like passports, they look, feel and have the same structure as they have, so you might want to be careful if you are considering shipping the re-entry permit to the US via courier.

I have a re-entry permit myself and your post helped me to expect to receive the same notification from USCIS about my re-entry permit.
