Interview and Oath Completed

I had my interview at Fairfax DO this morning at 10 AM. We were in there by 9:20, and was called in at 10:05. Very routine and straight forward interview. There was a question about the middle name, as I had it on the application but not on my passport or the birth certificate. IO mentioned that it would be considered a name change, and asked if I wanted to go ahead with it. I decided against it, and dropped the middle name. Rest of the interview was very similar to that of others' and the IO was very friendly. I was worried about my several trips overseas with total no. of days being 390. One of the trips was 179 days long, and I was a little concerned. So I carried a lot of documentation to prove that I never abandoned the ties with US. In the end, this turned out to be a non issue and none of the documents carried were asked for, except the birth certificate which was looked at because of the middle name issue.

I had a mistake on my N-400 where I put a wrong return date for one of my trips, and the IO corrected it without any questions. All in all, the interview lasted 20 to 25 minutes, and was approved and recommended for Oath at 2 pm. I was out before 10:30.

Oath was at 2 pm, and it was pretty standard stuff. It felt like everyone was going through the motions. Pictures were allowed. I then went to the post office to submit the passport application, but found out I needed an appointment. I am doing it tomorrow.

The whole process took less than 3 months, and it was very smooth. USCIS is performing much more efficiently than it did 5 years ago when I got my Green card.

Many thanks to everyone for all the information, advice, help and support you provide on this forum. All the best to everyone waiting for their interview.

Thanks, 179 to be precise. It was definitely cutting it close, but luckily turned out to be a non issue in the end.

I have a 173 day trip and keep getting worried at that.. did IO even blink at that trip for a second?

No. Infact, I had a correction right below that line for another trip that lasted 56 days. The return date was wrong, and I had IO correct it. IO didnt care much for either the individual trip durations or the total days outside of US, which was 390.

So my advice is, relax. But carry the tax returns and/or transcripts just incase. I also carried other documents like deed, property tax copies etc.
