Interim EAD - RFE

My wife's EAD was applied on May 18,2004. We went to get an Interim EAD yesterday (since it was 91st day since application). At the counter, they said USCIS had sent a RFE on July 23rd, 2004. Neither us nor our lawyer received any RFE. also, when I called the customer service center at USCIS (1-800 #), the representative told me that their system does not show any request being sent out but told us that there is a possibility that norfolk system is updated with latest information than theirs.

At NORFOLK we were told that if we can prove that no letter was received from USCIS, my wife can get an interim EAD. any thoughts of that can be proven. has anybody faced this issue. any help is appreciated.

USCIS is really getting more and more stupid

How the heck do I prove that I DO NOT have something ?
Are they going to search my home or what ? I mean, wft - if you tell that you don't have it, you don't - right ?
Its not like they send RFE notices by Certified Mail or something.

You should ask them how in the heck can you PROVE it ? Are they looking for something ?
Maybe a sworn affidavit that you never got the damn thing ?
Ask them -- atleast they'll see the impossibility of proving it
