I filed my I-765 85 days ago but it's not been approved yet so I had to get an Interim one to continue my employment.
I was very close to getting kicked out of the BCIS building without even a chance to talk to the officer. The BCIS receptionists are very very dumb. She started telling me that I can't see an officer because I should wait for 90 "business" days before I could come to the local office and that I wasn't eligible because my current EAD hadn't expired yet (2 days to the expiration date). I spent 45 minutes just to get the application forms. What really helped was the letter from my employer and my request to bring my lawyer to discuss this matter. I was given the form with a huge red word "insist" on it. Surprisingly the officer herself didn't give me any trouble at all. I was back in the parking lot in less than an hour.
If you need an EAD apply five months ahead to avoid this mess.
