Interim EAD in San Jose: My experience

Went for i-EAD as it is due to expire in next week. Called National Customer Service a day before to confirm the office and they told the office to be 1887, Monterey Rd (which was confirmed by fellow members of this site also. Thanks!)

Didn't want to take any chances so reached there at 4:15AM. There were 4 people in the queue before who grew to 8 (joined by their family members). As somebody earlier said, there is not too much order there. Appointments are given preference over walk-ins.

Now this is very important. When I was called at the counter at 8:10, I was asked to produce I140 approval letter which I did not have. The lady was co-operative and nice in talking but insisted on having at least the reciept # so that she could verify it. I called my lawyer and got the number in about an hour by 9:00AM. Then I was sent to cashier counter (I did not have to pay but they have to do some procedure there as well).

Then... the wait started and finally, after seeing so many people who came long after me having gone, I was called at 11:15 for photograph. I was given the card at 11:45. The lady kept my old card.

Moral of the story is that also take I140 approval letter, even though it is not really written on I-765 form supporting docs list.

I did mentioned in my yesterdays reply that I 140 approval copy is needed. May be if it is not approved ,they may need receipt number.

do you have to pay the fees for IEAD again or can you refer to your original EAD app fees and get away with it? Thanks,

No fees again. they do not ask for once you show them your EAD filing receipt pending for more than 90 days. Officer will verify the application depending upon EAD filied receipt number and then will approve IEAD.
