My mom married an American during WWII. No visas or passports were required. He died in action and today she collects VA benefits even though she resides in Canada. I was born to a different father, but if my mom was automatically an American due to her first marriage, couldn't I petion for American citizenship?;)

If your mom is a US citizen .. then she can sponsor you family based. Incidentally, citizenship, which you donot get as of today .. without applying, even if u marry george bush, the exception is honorary citizenship, given to a max of one person per year, and it has to be unanimous in the senate, the last person I heard who got that, was Mother Teresa after she died.

If you are unmarried and below 21, then you can get sponsored in category #1, for who the PD is 15DEC99 (not that bad). Otherwise, EB is better coz the dates are pretty pathetic, If ur over 21 and unmarried, 01DEC94, or if over/under 21 and married 15APR97 (#3 category and yea #3 is better than #2 isn't that strange?)

For more info, read here. http://travel.state.gov/visa_bulletin.html

BTW, you can't file for citizenship without getting GC first. She can sponsor you for GC, and then you sponsor yourself for Citizenship 5 years down the road (few more conditions).

So, bottom line is.. u gotta be Mother Teresa and dead, and only once a year?

You don't have to be mother teresa ... but you have to be dead, cuz then you will not pose any security risks, so the senate can vote unanimously :D :D :D
