Interesting fact about security checks...

...The necessary security checks have a short shelf life, Smulian said, adding to the BCI's workload. A check must be started within 15 days of receiving an application, and it expires 35 days after the check is completed. Since no applications are completed that quickly, Smulian said, the checks are done several times for every applicant...

If this is true, this is absolutely a huge part of this backlog. As I have stated before, this is more than anything a process problem. This more or less confirms it.

By simply using logic, you can see that without a process change, things will not get better, but worse. What could happen to someone's security record in 35 days? Why not just perform a check at receipt time and adjudication time?

You seems to find the new facts daily :)

Anyways, I am agree with you, they need to update there process but who is going to force these changes... GOD... or Mr.Bush... NOBODY knows.

Very interesting info.

Assuming security check for an application is done once every 2 months (35 days + buffer for initiating and receiving results) , all backlog (pending 01 and Jan-02) applicants should have been checked for security for atleast 12 times .

This is also probably the reason why people use to get approved 2 months from FP2 some time ago.

Hmmmm.....

Name check

If in this 35 days of name check result validit period, an INS officer does not take a look at your file, then you won't get a chance of approval. If this is the case, our chance of getting approval is that INS working on your case and name check effective at the same time. My case is pending on name check, then when can I expect to get approved? just wait for the random happends?

I think that people got approved 60 days from FP [some time ago] because if USCIS did not hear from FBI in 60 days , namecheck was considered to be "cleared"

then they changed that rule to USCIS must get a response from FBI

and then the security check backlogs started...
