How does the INS know your e-mail address to notify you in case your I-485 case was aproved?

I'm still waiting for my case to be aproved.

Go To the below link, and click on Create/Edit customer portfolio account
and cretae your Profile,and you can list all your pending cases numbers. Any status change to your pending cases you will get a email notification.

Go to this website https://egov.immigration.gov/cris/jsps/index.jsp
and register your user id and password. this official USCIS website.
once you register you can add all your's and your family EAC numbers
to your portfolio and also you can type in your email address and swith on
email notification.

with this, whenever there is an message change, they will email you on the address you specified. Above link is self explanatory.
