Information on Medical Test

Hi

I have been called for my AOS interview on Feb 12th. I have a few questions on the Medical Tests that are required:

1) I had to have an HIV/RIR test done in August 2001 to get my marriage license. Would results from that test (i have a copy) be valid now.

2) Does anyone here have an exhaustive lists of the vaccinations/immunizations I need. Can I have my PCP give them to me before I go to the INS designated civil surgeon to get my INS test done? That would be cheaper because apparantly the procedure isnt covered by insurance.

3) Are immunizations required or are they optional? If I decide not to get them, it would be cheaper right? I got most of them anyway when I was a child or first came to the US for by education; my parents just did not keep the records.

4) Any other tips would be appreciated. I live in the San Jose area.

Thanks

If I were you, I would not worry about a couple of extra hundred dollars and let the INS surgeon decide what needs to be done.

You can always call the surgeon and check up the fees and lists of shots you need to get. You can also check if HIV test done in Aug. 2001 will be valid. Howver, I would be very surprised if it is.

The shots recommended varies from person to person and is dependent on your age. Only the surgeon can decide what shots you should take. Also, if you are sure that you had all taken all vaccinations sometime in your life but don't have any records, you can have the surgeon test for that. Because, I did not want shots unless absolutely necessary, my surgeon had me tested for MMR, and I had enough anti-bodies in my system to avoid the vaccination. Mind you, the testing is also expensive.

Apart from MMR, the only other shot recommended for me was Tetnus. If you ever had a physical examination done by your PCP, most likely you would have got that shot. You can ask a copy of record of that shot. A tetnus vaccine in last 10 years is considered ok.

Hope this helps.
