The latest information from the German Consulate in Mumbai says the following:

"Indian nationals travelling to US with a valid visa will be issue a transit visa at Frankfurt on arrival" . So what it means is, yes, you do need a transit visa , but you don't have to try and get it prior to your travel.

Go to the German Consulate website and you will see for yourself.

Hi Raju and others,
My interview is scheduled on Apr-22 and I am planning to travel in second week of April. I have a valid UK Visitor Visa ,can I use this Visitor Visa as a Transit Visa ,if I travel thru UK ? and my H1-B Visa stamp will expire on March 27 -2005 but I got my 7 the Year extension ,do I still need to take Transit visa if I travel thru Frankfurt ?

Please let me know .

Thanks

This is just my opinion and may not be the exact solution to your case.

I have no idea what this UK Visitor Visa is. Is it something that applies to
all of European Union?

Since you would not have a valid US visa in your passport at the time of going through Frankfurt you may need to apply for it through the German
Consulate prior to your travel.

I do have the following question for cp interview.

1) I do have an interview at Chennai consulate in April. If I do not receive the packet4 before my travel and If I travel atleast a week before the interview, can I pickup the packet4 at the consulate window even if the packet has been mailed to US.

Thanks in advance,

You will be able to pick up a duplicate copy at the Consulate.

Transit visa

I recently travelled from Lufthansa Airlines to Delhi. If you have a valid US visa stamped on your passport then you do not require transit visa.
