Having gone through an entire ordeal for several people close to me who were seeking political asylum in the USA, I can confidently say that it can be an extremely difficult time if you are not properly informed (and do not have enough attention to your case--that I know particularly well).
The people I ended up going to in the New York City area title their firm Thakerlaw (thakerlaw.com if you're interested), and although I may have just gotten lucky, I found them to be very helpful and they made the entire procedure much easier for both me and my friends to understand. They offer a lot in terms of deportation help, current immigration laws and, of course, political asylum. I hope fellow New Yorkers who are going through similar issues will benefit as I have.
