Hello folks. My Passport was issued at the Indian Consulate at SFO and I need to get a Police certificate/clearance. I live in Vancouver, BC. Where should I get it, at Vancouver or SFO? Which one will be faster? What is the process? Thanks in advance for your replies.

It is not the question of which Consulate is faster in issuing the PCC.

You need to apply at the Indian Consulate that has jurisdiction of Vancouver.

Go to the website of the corresponding Indian Consulate, download the form, fill it up, obtain money order or cashier's check, attach a passport-size photograph to this form, mention very clearly in this form AND the covering letter that you need the PCC for your Permanent Residency in US.

Mail the above with your passport and you would receive your passport back with the PCC stamped along with a seperate letter of PCC,within 45 days(normally).

IF you do not wish to send your passport now along with the form, you may call the Consulate and confirm if they would accept a photocopy of your passport along with the form. Then when the PCC is ready to be issued, you would then need to send them your passport.

Since your passport was issued from SFO,perhaps you may get it in double quick time.

GCchaahiye,
Thank you very much for your detailed reply. It has been very helpful. I still have a lingering doubt. I live in Vancouver but will be visiting the US in a couple of weeks and hence, I was wondering if the SFO consulate will process my application (my spouse resides in the US so hers will have to be done at SFO). I'm expecting the Pk3 in a month (for MTL, hence the need for the PCC).

This makes it easier for you.

If your spouse resides in US and falls under Indian Consulate at SFO, then mention the residential address (which falls under CGI SFO jurisdiction) in BOTH of your forms.

How long will you stay in US when the next time you visit US?

Were both of your passports issued at CGI SFO? When was that?

I had a similar problem (PP from NY and living under Houston) and asked the consulate@Houston. They said that I have to apply according to the region of residence. Another surprising thing is that they were saying that it would take them 4-5 weeks to check with the NY consulate and issue the PCC.

I tried calling the consulate, but couldn't get through. I have emailed them. I'm hoping to be the in the US for 2-4 weeks. Both of our passports were issued at SFO.

Sandip, I'm trying to apply at the consulate where my PP was issued. So, I'm hoping it can be done.
