Indian passport renewal after overstay in USA

Hi all,

My friend's parent overstayed in the USA for several years and left for India. Now his passport has expired(INDIAN). Does Indian passport office cause any trouble if he applied for renewal of Indian passport.

In other words, are there any rules in India if a person overstays illegally abroad?

I really appreciate any inputs on your direct experience of any people that you have seen.

The Ind passport and US visa are handled by two separate entities. The ministry which deals with Ind passports will not care about the visa overstay. The US state dept will though,and he may have trouble if he plans to return to the US.
