Hi Folks,

I am in the process of applying for I485.
I just talked to Indian Embassy in Washington,DC for Date of Birth Certificate. They said, they issue DOB certificates.
Is it good for applying with I485 application to VSC?

Please let me know if anybody applied I485 with Indian Enbassy issued date of birth certificate?

Thanks a lot.,
SK.

I don\'t think INS accepts the embassy issued Birth Certificates,
because they use your Passport as the basis.
Get an affidavit from each of your parents (or some relative
who was present at your birth). They are more credible. Samples are
available at Mr. Khanna\'s FAQ location.

I\'ve used the Consulate BC, but I\'m not sure they will accept that. The consensus on this board is that it is not acceptable. According to my company it is acceptable. Since there is an element of doubt I would probably keep the affidavits ready in case u get an RFE. Thats what I\'m doing.

The INS website also has info about availability of BC from diff countries and for India it states that 1970 onwards it is possible to get one from the Controller of births and deaths or something similar. So I guess if you were born well before 1970 they might accept the consulate BC. THIS IS MY ASSUMPTION AND IS NOT SUPPORTED BY ANY FACTS.

You will need Non availabilty from the municipality of the town you were born in (in case the BC is not available) and support this with the affidavits from parents and relatives/friends.

hello everyone,

I am submitting both the BC issued from Indian Consulate at Washington DC and also the affidavits from my parents (supporting the birth certificate) for my I-485.

Will it be a problem? In my original BC issued from India my name is not complete and it is mis-spelled the municipal authorities are not ready to correct it. They say that they CANNOT do any corrections. Also my wife's BC doesnt have her name (not given while registering). She came to Bombay after her birth at Tamil Nadu. So even they are refusing to do the necessary corrections. Please let me know what is the best solution.

Thanks,
A

NRIs seeking a Date of Birth Certificate from the Indian Embassy can apply if their birth was not registered or if they need an official document for legal purposes abroad. The process typically requires submitting proof of birth, passport copies, and a completed application form. The embassy verifies the details and issues the certificate, which is widely accepted internationally.

For detailed procedures, visit the nearest Indian embassy or its official website OR go with third party nri service provider like NRIWAY.
