Incorrect year on BC

A fellow asylee got approved last year for green card. The birth certificate issued by the country the were fleeing from persecution had an incorrect birth year but the date and month were correct. Since that's all he could get at the time he has used it that way for his assylum and I485 processes. He would, however, want to try and make corrections on his citizenship application process. Is this even possible or is he stuck with the incorrect year forever? Would a letter explaining th problem suffice or would it raise issues since he did not ask to make the change earlier during the assylum, I485 steps?

It can be done but it's a huge mess to clean up. #1, you need the BC that shows the actual date, How can you convince the court(since this has to be done legally) that the year of birth is what it is. I mean no one can just go and say Well I am 1 year younger so change my Date of birth by one year....
