Incorrect expiry date in I-797

Folks,

Recently my employer applied for my H1B extension and got the new I-797. But, the USCIS made a typo in the expiry date(gave additional two months). My employer sent a letter to the USCIS service center requesting them to fix this error. But what the service center did was, they simply changed the online case status of my already approved H1B(extension) to "pending" and returned our letter(sent for amendment)back to us. My attorneys says that we discharged our obligation to bring the error to the USCIS' attention and now we don't need to hound USCIS until they fix this error. Now, I need to visit India. I am a bit concerned about this invalid expiry date and the online case status showing "pending". My attorney says that I need not worry about this and in case the US embassy question me about this error(when I go for stamping) I can show them the copy of the letter we sent to USCIS to fix this error. That will convice them...

If anybody out there who faced the similiar kind of issues(incorrect expiry date or any other typo in I-797) , could you please tell me how serious this error is and how did you fix that?

Thanks for your help.

Same situation

Hi ulg72,
I guess I am also in same situation.
I came to US in OCt 2002 and when I changed employer in 2006, the new H1 I got had a date of August 2009 which is clearly more than 6 years.
But I never did anything. Not sure if I am in trouble or will I face trouble while H1 extension beyond the H1b expiry.
If you face any problems or get any opinions with this, let me know.
