Hello,

I am in a desperate situation over here. I got my Canadian PR Card in August 2004 (applied from US). I have been in US since 2000 on H1b. Now my H1b Visa is going to expire in Novemeber this year and I am planning to move to Canada. Here are the concerns -

1) My wife is here in US with me on H4 Visa. How can I get her a Canadian PR. Can I apply for her Canadian PR from US? What's the process? How long does the whole process takes? - as I wan't her to be with me in Canada when I move. What are my options?

2) My parents are all alone in India and I want to bring them to Canada as PRs as well. How can I achieve that? Can I apply for their Canadian PRs from US? How much time is it going to take to get them their Canadian PRs? What is the best course of action I can go for? What are mmy options?

Experts Please help. Will greatly appreciate any information on the above concerns I have.

Thanks

u need to live in canada and be a canadian resident to sponsor people . You are only a Canada PR now but not a cdn resident

Thanks bhand11683 for your response. But how can I be a Canadian Resident? Can I just go over to Canada for couple of days and be considered as a Canadian Resident - or is there anything else required? Please explain..

You are going to have move to Canada permanently, get a job, place to live, pay taxes.

Thanks PMM for your response. But I still am a bit confused about "move to Canada permanently, get a job, place to live, pay taxes". In order to sponsor my spouse for Canadian PR Status I will have to do the following -
1) First rent a place in Canada to live - Would I be able to sponsor my wife as soon as I move to Canada and start living over there - in other words will I be able to sponsor her in the first few weeks of my stay in Canada? Or is there a specific time for which I have to live in Canada before I can sponsor my wife?

2) Look for a job - But what happens if I do not find a job for couple of months? Would I still be able to sponsor my wife?

3) Paying taxes - But I will not be able to pay taxes until I find a job and when taxes are filed at the end of the year? Does that mean that if I come to Canada in January 2006 than I will have to wait until December 2006 before I can sponsor my wife?

I am very confused.. please clarify.. your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

1. You can sponsor her as soon as you can demonstrate that you are back in Canada permanently, residential address, canadian bills, Medical (you will have a 90 day waiting period for medical in BC)

2) Look for a job - But what happens if I do not find a job for couple of months? Would I still be able to sponsor my wife?

Yes, spousal application don't have to meet the LICO, cannot be on welfare.

3) Paying taxes - But I will not be able to pay taxes until I find a job and when taxes are filed at the end of the year? Does that mean that if I come to Canada in January 2006 than I will have to wait until December 2006 before I can sponsor my wife?

No, see answer in two. Although you don't have to meet the LICO you still have to complete the financial evaluation.

I am very confused.. please clarify.. your help is greatly appreciated.
