The situation is:
I came here as a transfer student and was maintaining my status and during my final year of study, I applied for work authorization based on economic hardship. I received my EAD during my last semester at school and after two months of receival, I graduated. When I had applied for my EAD, I had asked the DSO of my school regarding my status after my graduation and if I must file for OPT but the DSO told me that I already had received my work authorization and that it is valid for a year so I can opt to apply for OPT. She did not tell me the consequences or any laws. Now when I sent my papers for H1, I had wanted to know about my departure date (my DSO shortened my length of studies as I had finished my studies much earlier than the expected date of graduation mentioned in my I20). I insisted my DSO a week ago to find out my departure date and to my shock, I received her email just 2 days ago that when economic hardship application is pending and the OPT is not filed then the student's application is terminated at the time of graduation and the student should leave in 60 days. .
Nothing is sure because she is still trying to find out about the law regarding EAD based on economic hardship, received much prior to graduation and I am totally concerned and shocked with this as my H1 will be applied soon and currently I am working and getting more offers.
Please can someone help me with this situation or if someone have any idea about a law regarding this.
Thanks much
