hello:)
would anyone mind commenting on this situation I am facing:

My RTD expired and I will be in San Diego soon,'no time to get a new one... I would like to visit Mexico by land for a week or so and from the uscis site I can read that we may exit and enter us with GC only:
*Lawful permanent residents (LPRs), refugees, and asylees (of the United States) will continue to be able to use their Alien Registration Card (Form I-551), issued by DHS, or the Travel Document issued to those with refugee or asylee status to apply for entry to the United States.

Will this be possible? Should I worry about getting back into US? For 8 years I only used RTD for travel in and out of USA.

Thank you, folks. I apppreciate your time.

The green card alone will get you back into the US. But other countries usually require a passport or reentry permit or RTD when you visit them (possibly in addition to a visa).

Mexico generally requires non-US nationals to carry a passport to be admitted. At least, that was the case in 2003. But I believe it is up to a particular border patrol officer, especially if you travel by land.
