In 7th year H1 + waiting for labor+ can I apply for new LC

Hello All:

I am right now into my 7th year on H1 after getting an extn.My labor is pending since 1 1/2 years and might take a lot more time.I am not so sure of my present company's financial situation and their might be a possibility of huge layoffs.

Is it legally possible that I can look for another company which would do my LC (or company with preapproved LC), that would apply for my extn and I am not out of status. Any help in this regard is higly appreciated.

Thanks a bunch for the reply. I guess I still am not clear about the extension beyond present employment. I mean, can I switch to "another company" with preapproved LC and still be in status even though I have passed my 6th year in H1 status(BTW my present company already got me 7th extn, my LC has been applied and pending since 1 1/2 years). Yeah its kind of worrysome because of present Financial & merger situation in my company and if something bad happens, don't want to end up in lurch. Any advice is higly appreciated.
