Nowadays, more number of people are receiving I-485 approval notices. Additionally, some of them also receive fingerprint notices after their I-485 has been approved. The AILA has been advised by the USCIS HQ that such notice is not a mistake. Even if their I-485 is approved, once they receive a fingerprint notice, they should appear at the ASC to provide new biometric identifiers. This includes children. If the I-485 approved minor children receive a fingerprint notice, they should appear at ASC! Those who ignored such fingerprint notices may want to immediately contact the USCIS to reschedule the fingerprinting. Important, Important.

Why? even for the folks who got PP stamped? Is it happening for folks who got plasic cards too?

thanks for sharing the news, Apollo_13. my 7-yr old son finally received his i485 approval the other day (over a year after my wife's and my own approvals). a day or two before the approval notice, we received a fingerprint notice for him as well. we were somewhat surprised, considering that they don't usually fingerprint little children. i was going to call the uscis customer service line to find out more, but then in the meanwhile, we received the approval notice. since the fingerprint notice said "please disregard this notice if your case has already been granted", we were planning to do just that.

but the news on www.immigration-law.com that you reported, and the following wording on the approval notice, are making me think again:

The above application has been approved. Prior to receiving your permanent resident card you may be required to report for biometrics processing (photo/fingerprint/signature). Please do not take any action at this time. If you are required to report for this processing, you will receive another notice advising you of the date, time, and location to appear.

If you have not received your card or the above mentioned notice to appear for biometrics processing within 60 days, please call this office at the number listed below.

i am inclined to think that the fingerprint notice we received for our son could be that "above mentioned notice to appear for biometrics processing". in any case, we have decided to show up at the application support center at the appointed time, and see what happens. i will post details of what transpires during the appointment.

pork_chop,

I think your son needs to take the fingerprint. This fingerprint is not a usual one where ASC takes finger prints of all 10 fingers. Your son must have received biometrics FP notice. You can find out this based on 'Code' written on the FP notice. If it is '2', then it means 'Biometrics'. ASC will take digital photo of your son to process I-551 green card (plastic card).

thank you very much for the info, and the link! i just checked the FP notice, and the code is '2'. good thing i came across your post!

things certainly have changed since i got approved. there was no infopass, and you could just walk into an ASC any old time with the approval notice, and get the i89 processing done.

thanks again, buddy! i appreciate it.
