Impact of Passport renewal on GC application?

Hi Everyone,

This is Srikanth from Fremont, California. Everyone here seems to have so much information about immigration and general passport/visa processes ... so, I thought I might get the info to the question I have on my mind now.

- My labor is cleared in Nov 2004, it was originally filed in April 2002.
- I'm filing for I-140 in next 2-3 days... they're in final review step by our attorney.
- We realized that my wife's passport is expiring in March 15, 2005. As it is only 3 months away... she can't renew it... she has to apply for a new passport with Indian Consulate in SFO.

That brought 2 questions to my mind:

1) Does a new passport imply that the passport number changes? or is it just that a new physical passport book is issued? Does anyone has greater clarity about the different between new passport and renewed passport?

2) What is the impact, if any, on the on-going GC processing when a new passport is issued to my wife?

Your replies will be well received and appreciated.

thanks,
-Srikanth

U cannot renew it anyway. Most of the Indian PPs are given for 10 yr. validity with no renewal option.

new PP will have a new number.

impact - pretty much none.

By "renew" I think he means get a new one.

After getting the new passport, just photocopy it and send the copies to the USCIS, if you like. It's probably a good idea for them to have all available paperwork. Then again, it might confuse them. You never know with those people... :)
