Message from our Accountant:
Friends,

I wish to update that I have requested Wachovia bank to open a checking account in the name of 'Immigrationportal.Org'. I expect to get today an account number and wire transfer information so those who wish to make contributions by check or make a transfer can be able to do it. Meanwhile I will get signature cards and other forms from the bank and have them signed by designated signatories. However, this should not stop any one from issuing a check in favor of 'Immigrationportal.Org' as his/her contribution for the fund. Please go ahead and collect the contribution checks and mail the same to my attention on address;

Our Organisation

Friends,
This "immigrationportal.org" is our organisation. It is started by forum members like you. So it's your baby. Please feed money to your infant baby. The recommended amount is $200 (debate is welcome). We will publish the names (user names) and the amounts contributed, on a separate thread. All the core team members are actively involved in the new organisation.

Mission
---------
1) To help improve all the immigration laws governing legal immigrants, by sending representation to the US congress.
2) To help reduce backlogs for all types of legal immigration
3) To fight all kinds of discrimination against legal immigrants
4) To enable the employment based legal immigrants to obtain citizenship after working here for 5 years (instead of waiting for 5 yrs after GC)
5) To offer financial/legal help to legal immigrants who are victims of wrongful/hasty action of USCIS.

Note : The term legal immigrant was used to mean "Any immigrant
who resides legally in USA and has not yet obtained citizenship of USA".

You guys can copy the above text, modify it and post the refined version.

immigrationportal.org website

immigrationportal.org website is under construction. We are working to bring it up as soon as possible.

On the website You are going to see pretty much what you are seeing on this thread. Please understand that this immigrationportal.org is started to raise funds for immigration reforms and started by CORE team members, which are active members of this forum. They are active members, few of them even approved but still want to fight and work with us.

What you need to understand is it is work in progress. We just registered the website, opened the bank account and registered the orginaization. Bringing up website is the next thing and we are on it.

The funds are going to be used for Advertisements to support our lawsuit, website maintainance etc. A more detailed activities list will be posted soon.

Thanks for your support and participation.

Let us start talking about contribution

As Dsatish pointed out let us share our views about the contribution amount while waiting for the immigrationportal.org to get ready. I agree with $200 but is it agreeable to everyone???

Since ramss invited for a debate about the contribution, I would first like to have a debate if such a forum is needed.

I personally don't see any use of such an organization especially by observing how BCIS works. Many of the actions proposed can be carried out through the current discussion forum and are being carried out by many others. Also sorry to say that, as Dsatish says it is our baby, I don't see that way at all. Before asking for any donation, I believe a proposal should be forwarded first for the organization and debated before starting the organization.

Just my 2 cents.

200$ is way too much.
why don't you guys receive whatever amount anyone want to give. even if it is 5$..

I can bet only few members will give 200$.
Speaking for myself I cannot give 200$ or even 100$. thats way way too much for me..

Here is my view:
Let us forget about the organization (may be that is too complicated a term). I beleive running full page ads in major news papers does catch the attention of politically influential people. I feel that alone deserves plenty of credit justifying the donation. Unless there is a serious lobbying effort that kicks off alongside with the litigation, we may have no serious result.

Famous things really happen after too much of a lobby effort friends.

LOBBYING IS EVERYTHING IN THIS COUNTRY!!!

Hello ramss, my point is that before any donation is asked for, we should debate if an organization is needed. If so what form should it have and how the members of the current forum can be a part of the new forum. Every one should have a voice in the creation of the new organization/forum - selecting the working/volunteer members, directors, and so on. Asking for donation first makes the whole thing a private matter. If it is a private forum, then you can request for donations by saying that it is a private forum and any one can contribute as much as one can and wish (as GC_NC123 has suggested). In that case, a donation tag of $200 and saying that is every one's forum do not have any sense.

My two cents. A concept of shares can be introduced. For example $10 per share.

A person who donates $200 would have 20 shares.

A person who donates $2000 would have 200 shares.

The amount of shares also will determine the amount of say a person could have on any decision making.

I think we are Jumping ahead of ourselves here.

I think we need to lay out the "PROCESS". Key elements of the Org.

My major concerns are who decided the BOD there name are already there as President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.

How can we trust these Key players?
Who are they?
Did we ever going to meet them?
How you can assure us that Money people going to donate will used properlly?
Are they going to use the Money wisely?

These are few questions I have.

Excellent questions by GC_NC123. I agree with GC_NC123 that we are jumping ahead. Yes, before proceeding any further, we should have answers to these and any other questions others might have.

First of all I want to say I don't want to disrupt any Good things you guys are doing. “Hats of to you guys.”

These questions are Just out of Curiosity.

I think its very easy to point finger.
But I just felt these are things I need to know before sending $$$.

Same for me. I also congratulate any brave souls and good work. If it is a private organization then it is fine and no questions. People will make contributions as they can and wish. However, when talking about "our organization", I believe we should discuss all relevant matters first.

Good discussion...

What happened to people who started hastily and blindly to lead :D:D this .ORG with money.
He is just watching this thread grow in 'south' direction.

FOOL...do not try to grab like a hungry DOG what ever is thrown out
:D:D

I understand your concerns. As someone said before - I think it was dsatish, we are still in the initial stages. We have come up with the by-laws, we have already registered the immigrationportal.org and we are in the process of setting up the web-site.

Instead of just the concerns, please also tell us what you think we should do to make things more transparent or to win trust among people who like to contribute. If you want to meet the people in the core team, you can do so by attending the regional meetings we have. Apart from that, we can also post each member's photo along with that person's info on the web-site.

You are jumping the gun because we did so by mistake, earlier. We are recalling our call for donations because we felt that our web site should be ready with answers to all your questions before asking for donations. So please wait for the official announcement (re-announcement) for fund collection. We will answer all your questions and more, both in the website and also in these threads. As a new comer, you are not aware of things that have happened / happening in this forum for the past 6 months. Please wait for our announcement on this subject.

PS : There is no need for any minimum amount. Any one can donate what ever amount he feels like. I personally feel that $200 is a good idea if you seriously believe in our goals and objectives. Once the website is ready and we start fund collections, then every member of this forum will be a member of the new organisation. We are in the process of formulating all the rules and regulations. Please bear with us, but you can carry the excitement of birth of a people's organisation to combat the backlogs and other issues concerning the immigrants.

frantic
people here are unknown to each other. but sharing their experiences. if this type of exchange is not there, we would have been in total DARKNESS.

The point is once a person is out of that DARKNESS, he/she will naturally be less interested in these things...unless there is some income generated out of that ( like rupnet ).

But to run a .ORG with temporarily met people with adhoc necessities will be a disastrous task. You will be wasting money of some over curious, innocent or desparate people with unfinished work.

The present forum and facilities is helping morre than required. If it is hard for Mr Rajiv to continue with this free web portal, then we MUST encourage all friends/people coming here to use him as their attorney - so that it helps them to run such wonderful sites in more economical way.
