Hi All,

Can someone please shed a light for me on the Immigration
Through Lottery system in US.

Is India among those few Countries ?

IF yes, Can I apply for the same.

Who qualify for the same & What are the Formalities for applying. ?

Can someone like me ( Software Engg. ) Working in US since last
three years ( Labor in Process ) apply ?

I will really appreciate if someone has some greate Idea on ths system.

Thanks

DV

If you are not an Indian Citizen or not born in India then you are eligible for DV program. (India is one of the countries excluded from this program).

If you satisfy the above then you can apply even though you are in the working in the US.

Link is for 2003 DV: http://www.travel.state.gov/visainstructions.html

2004DV ended and 2005DV will start later this year.

Titan01 - please allow me to correct you.

It depends only on your country of birth and not on your citizenship.

The lottery system is to maintain some diversity in the immigrant population, and hence countries with high immigration rate are not eligible for this lottery system. India is amog the countries having high immigration into US.

I dont think occupation is a barrier to apply, and neither are any of the other processing you may be currenty in the queue for.

Nativity/Citzenship/Place of Birth

Native of a qualifying country: In most cases this means the country in which the applicant was born. However, if a person was born in an ineligible country but his/her spouse was born in an eligible country, such person can claim the spouse’s country of birth providing both the applicant and spouse are issued visas and enter the U.S. simultaneously.

Also, if a person was born in an ineligible country, but neither of his/her parents was born there or resided there at the time of the birth, such person may be able to claim nativity in one of the parents’ country of birth.
