Immigration through a family member

Hi,

I'm a new comer and need advice.
Currently I have h1b visa; My mother became US citizen and filed I-130 form for me. When will I be allowed to legally stay in the country if I have my h1 canceled? After I-130 is approved or even later?
Any help with this matter is greatly appreciated.

Actually, I'm married, so looks like I have to wait 6-7 years - much longer than my h1 can be extended here. Does my location make any difference on the moment I-130 is approved?
