A friend of mine and His wife were advised by a local immigration attorney to get picked up by immigration so He (attorney) could get them out of detention and get them greencards. He tells them to drive around with their kids where immigration checkpoints are. They have been in the US for 15 years with no papers and have kids born here, The attorney says the fastest way for them to be legal is to get detained. This sounds stupid but is true. They have paid about $3,000 for this advise

Wow

There was a 'notario' in Wenatchee, WA who was giving these poor apple-pickers the same advice (for big $$$ of course). She actually told them to turn themselves in to the then INS in the hopes of beeing able to obtain discretionary relief from the IJ during removal proceedings. While it is true that you CAN obtain this type of relief, it doesn't mean you have a RIGHT to it.

(If you do a google search you should be able to find it, it was reported in the Seattle papers last summer.)

Maybe you should advise your friend NOT to follow this advice, it leads to near certain removal.
He might actually be able to get this immigration attorney (if he/she is in fact one) to be de-barred. If he is not an attorney your friend can get him arrested.

This is the dirty underbelly of US immigration. 'notarios' and 'immigration consultants' who rip off the poor suckers who just want to pick apples or polish cars. On top of beeing undocumented, they get scammed out of their hard-earned money by these dirtbags without anything to show for it.

I have heard of these type of things that happen,i am not saying that i have any knowledge of anyone who does this ....just that i have heard about people who who this type of thing ok... but you must be very careful about doing this.
i know you are thinking of the best interest for you and your family..but there are shady people who aren't afraid to take yor money and run...Unfortunately we don't live in a world with people who have a lot of integrity...
i am going to be blunt and honest to you..Consult a lawyer.
Sometimes you have to shell out alot of money for these things. But it is worth it in the end.
The cost of freedom in this country is ridicilous to say the least..but good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!
