"AILA has reported that the immigration services have decided to abandoned the traditional practice of sideview photo requirement in various immigration proceedings and adopt the passport/visa frontview photograph as early as August 1, 2004. Immigrant community is advised to take and submit the new fronview photographs from here on. Please watch for the USCIS' official announcement. "

what about photos of EAD and AP, still side view or changed to front view?

I believe this change will apply to all immigration photos, including EAD, AP...

Hey, we could save some money because of this change.
( 2 side-view photos cost $7-16 while you can get 16 front-view
passport style photos for $8 )

I don't think the price will be changed by photographer

they always make money by any means, doesn't matter the side view or front view, they are same for them.

I have to renew my EAD and our attorney asked me to get front view photos for the same.

New Photos Required – Likely Date of Sept 1, 2004

The Nebraska and the California Service Centers have both recently released notices that the USCIS will soon be changing its photo requirements to match the passport-style photos. The target date for the overall change is August 1, 2004 with an apparent likely implementation date of September 1, 2004. The reason for this change is to bring USCIS documents into compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization Standards on or before the October 26, 2004 deadline for this compliance.

A notice will be issued in the Federal Register within the next few days to implement this rule. Until the notice is published, the Nebraska Service Center will accept either the current style of ADIT photos or the passport style of photos. The California Service Center, in its July 26, 2004 information notice, however, requested that the new passport-style photos should be used immediately with all pertinent applications and petitions. According to a statement issued by the USCIS on July 28, 2004, the USCIS confirmed that it will begin accepting the passport-style photographs on August 1, 2004 and will phase in their use with a likely final implementation date of September 1, 2004. The U.S. Department of State has an excellent multi-page demonstration regarding the way passport-style photos should look on its WebSite.

Those who have already submitted photos with prior applications should not send in new photos for pending applications unless specifically instructed to do so by the USCIS. This change does not appear to require photographs for any applications or petitions that have not previously required the submission of photographs. Our experience has been that, if the photographs submitted with a filing are omitted or incorrect, the filing will be accepted but a Request for Evidence (RFE) will be issued requesting the new style of photographs. This will likely delay the processing of the case. Therefore, it would be advisable to submit photographs with the required specifications at the time of filing to avoid an RFE or delay in the case.

Does the new style Photo's applicable to stamping now?

My 485 got approved couple of weeks back. Recieved the courtesy copy but not the "original" approval from lawyer.

1. Can I go for stamping with the courtesy copy or should I wait to recieve from lawyer?

2. The courtesy copy says stamping schedule as Tuesday to hursday from 9 AM till noon and gives old Charlotte address. Just curios if it is okay to go on Monday to the new address in tyvola center?

3. Do I need to take the photos of side view or the new style of front view?

Any ideas...

Thanks!

New Photo Standard is official now on USCIS website:

USCIS will accept both three-quarter and full color frontal photographs until September 1, 2004 after which only full frontal color will be accepted.
So even if your approval notice issued before 08/01/04 says to bring ADIT-style photos, I guess you can bring passport photos (which are much cheaper), and you should be fine.

Where to get cheap passport photos? Thanks!

The cheapest place I know is CVS/pharmacy - on one sheet you can get pictures for entire family (16 total)... AAA is also cheaper then our local immigration photo labs. Some Costco locations do passport photos too.

You can also take the photo yourself using a digital camera. Print it out and cut it to the passport photo size. I did it once for a friend who didn't like the once he got from Costco :)

I took a snap using digital camera and went to Sams club. At the instant photo machine, I choose ID photos option and it printed out 6 ID photos on the 4X6 photo print. The cost is $0.28. You can also do this at Walmart for less than $0.50.
