Immigration gurus: need urgent help on status question

I arrived in US in 1994 on a F-1 visa valid until May 1999. My study completion date on my I-20 was May 31 1998. One addtional year of practical training allowed after that. I did not finish my studies by that time. I also forgot to do date adjustment by that date. I approached the foregin student advisor on March 1999 to correct this. He asked me to file I539 with the INS, which I filed immediately. I received the F1-reinstatement in June 1999. I completed my doctoral degree in 2000 (with several publications and International awards). I received Employment Authorization starting May 2000. My fortune 500 employer applied for my H1 application. I received I797 approval effective April 1 , 2001.

I am need to visit abroad to attend urgent family matters and wish to seek multiple entry visa in my home country India. My question is that am I eligible for multiple entry visa because of expiration of I20 expiration during a portion of my studies. Can anything be done to correct this situation?
