The necessary security checks have a short shelf life, Smulian said, adding to the BCI's workload. A check must be started within 15 days of receiving an application, and it expires 35 days after the check is completed. Since no applications are completed that quickly, Smulian said, the checks are done several times for every applicant.

"The cases have been piling up and piling up and piling up. It's a vicious circle. The longer the cases sit, the more times you have to do a security check," Smulian said. "It's basically a system that is literally out of control."

Adding to the problem is that most immigrants have no real way to find out the status of their applications, or even whether they are being processed.

The more *we* on this board, write to reporters, the more articles of this kind we shall see. .. and higher are the chances of the system of being fixed then ..

I am talking about the above mentioned article. It mentions,

"Only the wait time for adjustment of status, which is estimated at 24 months, is down from the 30-month period estimated two years ago. "

That statement is incorrect. 2 years back, the expected time for adjudication of I485 at CSC was 6 months to 8 months, today .. it is 24 months and growing indefinitely due to the security checks you mentioned.

And see how people have been suffering, and how unfair and RIDICULOUS INS/BCIS is.

I myself have been waiting for over 600 days, and every now and then you hear someone who gets approved within 100 days. I don't understand .. how they get approved so much sooner, while I am being told my case hasn't even been "touched" yet. Whats more, I cannot call them, I cannot fax them, and there is no way I can get any sort of reliable information. I have written to senators, congressmen, president, vice president, and no one even bothers to reply anymore.

This treatment to a law abiding aspiring immigrant is not only unfair, but plain ridiculous .. I seriously doubt it is these policies and departments that made this country great.

Why can't some journalist in California carry such an article? Looks like women journo's are more receptive..

Could somebody dig out an email id of some immigration friendly journo in California , if we quote this story and express our frustration maybe we can see some pressure being put.I know we tried this earlier but it may be a story worth writing for these guys now..
 
Looks like the journalist got a handful of abuses from several immigrants. He must've changed his e-mail address.

I visited their web page and all their advertising consultants had the address format I posted. Not that I am looking for credit here, because I really don't give a shit as long as something is done about it. True credit goes to Tasse for pointing out the article and to Silly Man for making an unsolicited correspondence with the writer.
