Dear all,
I am a masters graduate student in Engineering and I graduated in May 2006. My OPT started from July 4, 2006 and it expires on July 4, 2007.
Now the situation is that all the H1b for the year 2007 have expired in July ,26 2006 including the masters quota for which I could have applied for ?. But since I was careless and was not serious about the deadlines I missed both the quotas for the general as well as the masters for 2007.
Now the latest that I can apply is on April 1, 2007 and latest day that I can start work is on Oct 1, 2007. Hence, I am having a 3 months gap between the day my OPT expires and the day that I can begin to work if in case I manage to get a H1 visa .
Now the problem is that I am finding trouble getting employment in companies due to the reason that I missed my H1 visa. And few companies are not employing me for this particular reason ......the reason that I have a gap between H1 start date and my OPT expiry date.
Therefore, I would request all board members to kindly suggest me an advice on my situation . Currently I am terribly confused and I am scared that I might be caught into some wrong place ......
Therefore if any one could help me in my doubts Ill be really thankful....
1. Since H1 has expired for next year, I need to know whether Companies DO hire people whose H1 has expired and who have problems (such as OPT - H1 GAP).....please let me know if anyone of you know of any situation in which companies have hired such candidates ?.
2. One of my relatives suggested me to Join a NGO or Non profit organization for 1 year and then continue under H1 from next year .
Is that a good option ?.......If it is could you kindly suggest me the procedure for this ?......
Please let me know what would be the best option for me to do now ?.......should i continue to apply to companies hoping that someone would employ me even though I the H1 has expired or joining any NGO or NPO would be better .......
. Also if any other student is facing the same senario kindly pm me our contact details so that we could discuss with each other.
