Professional Positions held:
Consultant, Cap Gemini Consulting India Pvt. Ltd. (Aug 2004-present)
Have been working on a project which aims at developing loans and mortgage section of banking suite for Rabobank, a Netherlands based banking company. As a developer, am responsible for implementing the software in J2EE according to its UML specifications. The project makes use of several leading frameworks like Hibernate (an ORM persistency manager), Spring (to facilitate AOP and IOC) and Struts (for the MVC framework).
Intern, Godrej & Boyce Mfg. India Pvt. Ltd., (May-June 2002)
Was assigned the task to observe and suggest changes in design and manufacturing for sheet metal forming at Godrej & Boyce. A study of the existing method revealed that a set of similar processes were repeatedly used for the operation, which increased the product development time and hence cost, as well as the possibility of errors. We developed software, DETACAD which drastically reduced their usual detailing process from a span of 5 days to a single day. In recognition to the value of work and the dedication, put in the same, was offered a pre-placement job offer in the same company.

Coordinator Techfest, IIT Bombay 2003
As the co-coordinator of Technoholix, was responsible for organizing several events like How things work, Smart home and Crystal Maze.
Projects:
1. Airline Reservation/Cancellation System (2nd Aug - 1st Sep, 2004):
As a part of the training program at Cap-Gemini we conceived (team of 5) and implemented the airline reservation system. Salient features of the project are:
Design and analysis was done using the principles of UML and rational tools.
The project was implemented in core JAVA, and made use of several key features like Swing, RMI, JDBC and threads.
Database design was done using ER diagrams and implemented on Oracle database server. Triggers and stored procedures were coded in Oracle PL/SQL.
The software was developed using the principles of RUP.
2. Bank Account Management System (20th Aug-20th Sep, 2004):
As a part of the training program at Cap-Gemini implemented the bank account management system with a team of 3 people. Salient features of the project are:
The front-end was developed using Struts.
The project made use of several key features of J2EE like Enterprise Java Beans, Servlets, JSP, JMS and Java mail.
The software extensively made use of recommended design patterns which made it easier to extend and maintain.
The System could be accessed using varied clients like Web browsers, thin clients like Swing or even VB clients.
It was thoroughly tested using unit testing.
3. DETACAD (Detailing AutoCAD) (2nd May-28th June, 2002):
AutoCAD, a software extensively used for the design of mechanical and civil components does not have the option (till version 4.5) to generate part drawings out of the assembly drawings. This puts a great limitation to productivity of the designer. To overcome the same, custom software was developed which would automate the manual generation process. Salient features of the software are:
Automatic generation of part drawings utilizing minimal manual intervention.
The software was coded in C and AutoLISP.
It was developed under a tight schedule of 8 weeks and was approximately 3100 lines long.
4. Design and Maintenance of Web Services/Open Systems (May 2001-April 2003):
As the Computer Secretary of my hostel started and maintained several web-servers for alumni/hostel inmates:
Full featured hostel intranet site which contained information ranging from registering oneself to hostel, static mapping of IPs to hostel router, borrow of books from hostel library, or communicating each other on hostel message boards. All these services made use of perl as scripting languages.
Interactive section of hostel homepage on institute website, it extensively made use of php, mysql and was hosted on a linux machine.
5. Other Services:
As the Computer Secretary of my hostel as well as Mechanical Engg, IIT Bombay, started several services which were instrumental in improving the computing facilities at IIT Bombay.
Started an internal DNS to eliminate memorization of intranet IP addresses, it also served to minimize external lookups.
Started and maintained intranet proxy servers to facilitate web-caching and access control.
Implemented LDAP directory services to maintain student information.
Implemented NFS, NIS and SAMBA for authentication and file sharing among Linux and windows clients.
Implemented a live encoding and streaming framework on the principles of multicast.
All of these services were implemented on linux servers.
6. Final Year Project (Mechanical Engg):
Visual Inspection of Fabrics : Manual inspection and grading of fabric suffers from several disadvantages like high cost, lack of consistency and low production rate. Therefore the aim of the project was to develop an automated fabric defect identification and classification system using principles of image processing, computer vision and pattern recognition. The project was sponsored by ATE industries, one of the leading textile machinery manufacturers in India. The algorithm was coded in C++ and Matlab.
Other Achievements and interest:
Received Organizational Citation from Hostel-4, IIT Bombay in recognition of my continued involvement with hostel activities especially in IT services and the efforts put in the same.
Was a Student mentor, autumn 2003 for the fresh batch of students entering IIT Bombay; was responsible for helping them in all matters of concern and making them feel at home.
Avid book reader, music lover and a sports enthusiast.
