If you win a lottery will you go back?

There are different reasons why we come here. I think most of us come here with a dream of leading a comfortable life (a house, a car and ease of earning a living). This life may be good for you. BUT the culture - kids. You have family values because you grew up back home. But what about your 1st or 2nd generation. They will be exposed to this culture which I believe ****. Therefore, if you win a lottery will you go back ? (not that I have won any).

TP Stuff.........my decision

depends on how much.......You must put a minimum cap on the lottery winning, is it 100K or 1 M ? If you win 100K your take home will be hardly 50K ..... Wina jackpot of 10M or more there is no second thoughts then!!!!!( Day Dreaming .......I better get back to work rather than getting smacked on my head by my boss):D :D ...

If you're rich, get a bahama citizenship, and you can live in US, paying less tax.

If I had enough money, I will get bahama citizenship and live in the Bahamas. Why bother living in the US .. Party in the Bahamas.....

culture

What I am thinking is the your 1st generation/2nd generation. Is it worth staying here or going back is good for them.

GCkikushi ,
I got my GC recently and did not win any lottery. Still, I am going back in Q1 2004. It all depends on one's preferences and choices. If you prefer the lifestyle of USA and do believe that you can assimilate and become an US citizen, go for it. If you believe, you will be better of being Indian (or Chinese, etc.) and like living in your "motherland" and among Indians(or Chinese, etc. as the case maybe), then you can return too.

As for lifestyle, India is fine these days if you have money. There are quirks and pros/cons with every nation/culture. Only issue is can you be successful there (monetarily in most cases) as much as you can be in US?

As for comfortable life (house, car, ease of earning), did you check what is happening in India for IT folks these days? :) It is way better than here (at least for now).

If you know of any real stories about the pay structure in Hyd/B'lore/Chennai please throw some light. For instance, if a person has 6-7 yrs experience in US with a Masters what would be a typical pay at the moment ? Just trying to guage and then plan a permanent move to India.

Any inputs will be highly appreciated.

Cheers

Here is what we offer

Engg : Entry level - 6 - 8K
Sr engg.: With 2 yr exp. - upto 20k
Lead : with 5 yr exp - 50 K
PM : it depends - but, PM usually get 75K to 1.20 L

Food & Shelter does not change the level much, its just matter of employee satisfaction. Some companies do provide it for bachelors and some also do it for families.

Rough estimate in IT (India):

No. of years experience * 1 to 1.5 lakh = Cost to Company (More like annual gross pay).

So 6 yrs experience can range from 6-9 lakhs/per year. BTW, some will pay for relocation from India. DO check this site, http://groups.msn.com/R2IClub.

MNCs and medium size companies pay more than TCS, Wipro, Infy, etc (which are not really that good for senior experienced folks).

Obviously some skillsets will pay more and some less.

If you are in ASIC/chip design, it can be 12-18 lakhs/per year for 6-8 yrs experience and 18-30 laksh/per yr for lead designers in Indian counterparts of Intel, TI, etc.

I cannot comment life style is good or bad in India. For me that is the life style. I can go to corner shop and have cigarette. Talk about cricket, Talk about politics, Talk about a thing. There are gimmicks I have to make.
Here till my death I am immigrant. I will not be able to understand schooling system here. The culture is totally unknown. I have hard time to understand jokes told by good white men. Oh! God.

I grew up in small village. Desperately wanted to become a Clark in a nationalized Bank. Some how came here. If you are from small village where every one knows every one then you will understand my dilemma.

Yes people ask me why are you staying if you do not like it? Certain things you got do even though you do not like or accept. It may be just money. But at the same time I feel I am not so materialistic. I do not know. May be once we have kids I may start getting feelings about this country also.

It is better not to try to answer this question. Let it be my one more dilemma.

If you get a lottery with lots of money , say in millions of $ (not yen), it does not matter to live in US or in India. You can travel either country as you wish. Because you have money.

Buy I really agree with Tammy

Also I greatly enjoy the freedom of pee in India...I do.

Typically known as "X+1 syndrome", this has no proven remedy available at this point in time. However there are some treatments available in India and the chances for recovery has been great for some people . The long term effect of that treatment is still under study ......:D

Taking money out of this equation, it really comes down to who you know. If you have loving friends and great relatives back home, then that is the place one would love to be in.
Having moved out of India, after engineering and having spend most of my time in Sweden and this country, I must say this about India: India is a great country, with good helping people, great culture, and I am going to forever miss it, but moving back seems like a sacrifice at this point.

A long time ago

I read a book called "Inscrutable Americans" by Anurag Mathur. if you haven't read it, please do. I would especially think Tammy2 would get a good laugh out of it :D

1) Get GC
2) In the meantime have kids.Born here and are citizens of US..Great
3) Get Citizenship for yourself and spouse
4) Now kids are around 3 to 6 years of age
5) Go back to your home country with an option that You can always comeback if it does not workout.
6) Kids receive better education at a lower price and maybe some knowledge about the cultural values.
7) At age 21 kids may move back to US if US is still number one in the world.
8) Like father like son . Kids take the same path that you took.
